COKO Rwanda – Honey Process

FEMALE FORCE AT ITS BEST

DELICATE AND TEA-LIKE - THIS COFFEE SHOWS HOW ELEGANT FILTER COFFEE CAN BE. IN THE CUP: RAISINS, RIPE BANANA, APRICOT AND A HINT OF BROWN SUGAR. PLUS A FRESH LIME ACIDITY AND THAT TYPICAL RWANDAN BLACK TEA TOUCH ON THE FINISH THAT WE LOVE SO MUCH. ESPECIALLY POPULAR WITH PEOPLE WHO SAY: “I DON'T REALLY LIKE COFFEE.” BECAUSE THIS ONE IS FINE, MILD AND COMPLETELY WITHOUT BITTERNESS. AS A COLD BREW IN SUMMER? SIMPLY FULLMINANT - JUICY, CLEAR, REFRESHING. A COFFEE FOR TEA DRINKERS, SUMMER PEOPLE AND THE CURIOUS.

The Story behind the cup

The beans come from the Coko washing station in the Gakenke district - operated by the Twongerekawa Coko cooperative, which was under the management of Therese Nyirangwabije until 2023.

Therese was more than a coffee manager: she was a community leader. Under her leadership, women were supported, new sources of income were created and a sustainable ecosystem was established with fruit trees, handicrafts and honey production.

Honey is processed entirely without water - the pulp remains on the bean, which brings more sweetness and complexity. Drying on tables takes up to 25 days and requires a lot of manual labor.

Despite challenges (e.g. quality slump in 2021/22), Coko is back in full force - with a cup that shows what is possible when passion, female power and regenerative cultivation come together.
